Well, well, no rain for ages so our ground has turned from slithery mud to concrete. We planned to fill in some of the winter ruts – no chance. Instead Chas with a copious supply of antihistamines has been out on the tractor cutting grass ,buttercups and way too many thistles. It is typical of alpacas that they eat down a favourite part of the pasture and leave the rest to grow too long.
There are seven heavily pregnant females in the birth field overlooked by the office. They spend the day lying around and only one has summoned up the energy to give birth. A boy, he’s a chunky little fellow weighing in at 7.4 kilos. He’s what we call a light, that is not white enough to be white and not fawn enough to be fawn.
