September is always rather busy. First off was the Southern Wool Show at Newbury that was very successful but I also came back with a vague and persistent lurgy, not Covid! This weekend we are showing alpacas in the halter classes at the Somerset County Show in Taunton and the following weekend we are off to Skipton for Yarndale.

In between all that, we finally managed to get hold of some more Bravoxin. This is a vaccine against all sorts of nasty clostridial diseases and there are loads of them. Normally we use Lambivac but that has been impossible to get hold of even for the vets.

Over the last couple of months we have managed to jab all the cria with the necessary two doses to give them full cover and the stud males. We had to leave the adult females as there wasn’t enough but our recently acquired 100ml bottle will cover all of them too.

Bravoxin is widely used in the cattle and sheep herds but no one really knows if it works for alpacas as so little research has been done with them. We give it with hope!
