Plenty of deliveries in the fields too with eight boys and two girls born in the last ten days. That is a terrible ratio but hopefully with about 20 more to go we will end up nearer 50 50.
The two girls have been the problem ones with the first one’s dam having a uterine torsion, definitely a vet job. In fact all went swimmingly, one roll and the torsion gone and the cria came out alive and well. The second one was where you get a head out but no legs. This is a Chas job, the find the legs puzzle, tucked up underneath of course. She was a big cria and is bouncing round the field now.
We had a good time at the Cumbria Wool Gathering last weekend where the British weather put on a lively show running from unspeakably hot (Saturday) to torrential rain (Sunday evening). Very pleased to see so many returning customers and to introduce some of you to British alpaca yarns for the first time.
We had, how shall I put it, a scenic drive home, as there was at least an hour’s delay on the M6 before Lancaster. So it was the A6 for us and an interesting drive through the middle of Carnforth, Garstang and Lancaster before joining the M6. The weather was filthy but at least the traffic was rolling.
