Sunshine & Showers

Sunshine and showers, they said. Well around here it is nearly all showers with plenty of stair rod ones too. So from complaining about being too hot we are now complaining about being too cold. Back into alpaca socks, wellies and two jumpers, flaming June my left elbow.

The consequence is that the grass has gone bonkers, the flowers too and our front door is drowning in wisteria and roses. I think it looks great but the only way into the house now is through the back door.

Fleece grading continues and some nice baby fleeces in white, fawn and black are in the bulk bags. To assuage any boredom, I listen to the Rest is History podcast which is both fascinating and hilarious. Yesterday I was with Hannibal at the battle of Cannae, a key engagement in the Second Punic War in 216 BC. It is regarded as one of the greatest tactical feats in military history and one of the worst defeats in Roman history, and it cemented Hannibal's reputation as one of antiquity's greatest tacticians. It was also an absolute bloodbath.

I’ve already listened to their series on Mary, Queen of Scots, Elizabeth 1, Peter the Great, Greek Myths, the Rivers of Blood speech and Chatham High Street. There is a new four-parter on London’s Golden Age starting with Dr Johnson so I think that will be my next one.
