Summer Dreams

Summer Dreams

I’ve never much liked brown and today the majority of our fields have turned that glorious colour. We do have some grass at the bottom of the farm, who knew that facing north would turn out to be an advantage. Somebody, probably deer, has been into the vegetable patch and demolished the perpetual spinach and taken out quite a few roses as well.

The alpacas seem quite happy in the heat and the cria, thirty of them now, still zoom around the field at full pelt whilst the humans sit gasping in the shade. We were at 50:50 boys and girls but the last two births have ruined the ratio so we are at 16 boys and 14 girls.

Here is my black girl Jasmine, broad ribbon winner, who we mated to a dark fawn. Couldn’t believe my eyes when this bright white cria emerged. It has been a white year and girls who have had fawn cria year after year have gone to the light side!

We decided to take advantage of the endless heat and collect some very big logs that have sat in a field for a couple of years as thy were too big to pick up without a serious back injury. The mule was full.
