Yarndale Ltd. was formally established in July 2012, with the first festival taking place in September 2013. We are a small, dedicated team (Carole, Emma and Kate), passionate about making, our local town and the thriving community that exists here.

Renowned for its 900 year old medieval castle and ancient narrow cobbled streets the market town of Skipton has a strong textile heritage and was once surrounded by mills spinning the world’s finest yarns and threads. Its name is derived from the Old English words “sceap”, meaning sheep and “tun” meaning town. Sheep farming is still of great importance to the region and has a huge impact on the life and landscape of this area. It also means there’s a local auction mart which makes a pretty good venue. With good public transport links, Skipton is a great place to host Yarndale.

When the idea of creating the show began to take shape, it was important to be based in Skipton to benefit our local area. We continue to strengthen our links within the community, raising funds for several charities, involving local school children in textile based art projects and participating in the town’s annual Sheep Day festival usually held in July.

Each of us brings different skills and great enthusiasm for encouraging creativity. Organising a event of this size with over 180 exhibitors and thousands of visitors requires considerable investment of our time, energy, and creative vision throughout the year and we all work hard to make Yarndale a success, for all involved.
